I have found John M Hayes to be a very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable service and have been very satisfied with their services.
Fieldings Porter Solicitors
Michael was born in Jarrow right next door to Springfield Grammar School which he later attended. He then secured a Law Degree at The University of Sheffield and an MA Degree in Criminology at The University of Keele. His first paid employment was with the Royal Automobile Club in motor insurance; other significant spells of employment include working at South Tyneside Magistrates Court, HM Prison Service and criminal litigation at a firm of solicitors in Norwich. Michael has been a Costs Draftsman for over 25 years and joined John M Hayes at the beginning of 2000 following several years at a neighbouring Costs Drafting firm in Norwich. He is married with 2 grown up children and now lives in Northumberland, having relocated back to the North East in 2001 to set up the Newcastle branch of our company. DIY activities have loomed large in his spare time over the years although now Michael directs his spare time to the gym and running events, last year he completed 12 half marathons and 2 quarter marathons – a great excuse to visit some nice places around the country! For his sins Michael is a lifelong follower of Newcastle United, and hopes that he might live long enough to see them win a domestic trophy...
Having decided to end my days at HM Prison Service I stumbled upon an advert in the Norwich Eastern Daily Press for a Costs Draftsman. I applied and at my first interview I was asked to go away and read their copy of Greenslade on Costs! I returned and as it had not put me off the job they gave it to me! (The job, not the copy of Greenslade!).
Regional Manager at the Newcastle Office since August 2001.
The people, colleagues and clients alike. It has been a pleasure to work for this company and with so many friendly, positive, innovative and forward thinking folk.
Being cold called by recruitment companies.
Being entrusted with the task of setting up the Newcastle Office from scratch.
Hexham, Northumberland.
These days going to the gym several hours per week and (injury permitting) participating in various running events (see photo).
Being a writer or a criminal investigator/researcher.
Not particularly, though when it was being aired I didn’t like to miss ‘A Touch of Frost’.
Having a quiet meal and a cappuccino and watching the world go by (and with the occasional pun thrown in!)
When I was a small child I was given a bible and in it was a silk bookmark. I still have it to this day, and the bookmark quotes from Charles Dickens Pickwick papers ‘If I have done but little good I trust that I have done less harm’. This I felt was a sound base from which to proceed in daily life.
Michael works out of our Newcastle Office and his contact details can be found here.
