Legal Aid Agency publish latest exceptional case funding statistics
The Legal Aid Agency have published details of Exceptional Case Funding applications and determinations made between 1st April and 30th June.
The figures show that there were 270 applications received by the LAA; 209 were new applications and 61 were requests to review an earlier determination. 12 of the 270 applications were made directly by the client and the remaining 258 were made by legal aid providers.
211 applications were determined by the LAA, with 59 waiting to be assessed. Only 21 of the determinations resulted in funding being granted. This was broken down into 14 inquests, 4 family cases and 3 immigration cases.
Success rates therefore continue to be very low. Family law in particular has seen very little success; 101 determinations were made in that category with only 4 of those applications being granted.
