I have always found John M Hayes to be reliable, efficient and accurate.

PI Reform news continues to dominate the headlines this week with somewhat gloomy predictions and a growing sense of unease. Terry Wisdom (that consummate draftsman of yester year) once described the job of the costs draftsman as “part boredom and part fear” – and although perhaps not quite on point contemporaneously, we can’t helping thinking of the continuing aptness of the quote in the current climate. Meanwhile, the team of assessors charged with assisting Jackson LJ on his fixed fee review has grown to 14 with the inclusion of Ian Stark Chairman of the Association of Costs Lawyers who this week was busy commenting on why Solicitors need Costs Lawyers to prepare budgets. And here are BLM Solicitors who talk of a new coherent package for costs and give us the perspective from the Paying Party side.
Take a look at Professor Regan appearing on YouTube speaking costs budgeting - fun and illuminating at the same time. We once had Professor Regan deliver our Annual Conference Lecture at John M Hayes and were hugely entertained by his jokes and goodwill. A natural performer – we’d love to see more of these short films – what do you think?
The implied pace of change continues with Legal Futures reporting on a new AI app to replace lawyers in divorce cases. “I’m surprised how easy it is to tie a piece of string around my tooth and yank it out” tweeted (twote?) divorce lawyer Marilyn Stowe, Solicitors on Wednesday!
There is also gloomy news from the profession wide working group on the proposed Contingency Legal Aid Fund which has all the appearance of a non-starter. Come on team there is an answer to be found here. Legal Aid used to work in PI matters, we were there and we remember and it can be made to work again – the problem is perhaps that access to justice is not a political priority for this government and until it is, there is no momentum or drive canadian online casinos to find an answer and by then access will be gone. Find an answer people!
Company news sees a busy November as we continue to bed in with new accountancy software partners, XERO. Every office is busy planning for Christmas parties at ten separate locations – and no I don’t get to attend them all! Elsewhere we warmly invite you to follow our new Instagram account which is currently run out of our Norwich office where our newest recruit, Piers is seemingly outnumbered by the rest of the fabulous team when it comes to choice of lunchtime activities, I mean did you see what they were up to this week?
Until next week….
