Training – What we Do – Case Study

The Requirement:

Chambers sought training for both Counsel and the clerking team on inter partes costs negotiations, costs management and budgeting and maximising costs generally.

The Solution

Christopher McClure, Regional Manager at our Manchester Office provided a two hour training session covering legal costs from both private and public paying perspectives.  The session was divided into three parts – inter partes costs, legal aid and miscellaneous costs and questions and answers.

In part one we looked at the costs management and examined the current case law surrounding budgets and their applicability on assessment. We considered the seismic changes to the legal landscape which have occurred post LASPO and the impact these changes have had generally.  We also discussed how bet to rep;y to points of dispute by way of formal replies and, in particular, the various pitfalls with retainers.  In part two, Christopher discussed costs awards in publicly funded matters, CCMS billing for both family and non-family matters and drafting (and justifying) enhancements in the latter case be reference to the relevant law and guidance from the Legal Aid Agency.

Feedback

“Thank you for your time yesterday, everyone found the training really worthwhile!”
