In tandem with his duties as Regional Manager, Christopher maintains a busy caseload of varying complexity. In addition to drafting bills of costs in both publicly funded and inter partes matters, Christopher also accepts instructions to prepare points of dispute, draft formal replies and negotiate settlements in a variety of legal areas. He is frequently instructed by clients to advise in relation to technical costs queries and regularly undertakes work in relation to the assignment of CFAs, QOCS, the various Portals and costs budgeting. Christopher delivers internal and external training and is a seasoned advocate who possesses a sound working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules. His advocacy experience extends to both costs-related advocacy (including hearings at the SCCO) and civil matters generally. Christopher is a contributor to the Personal Injury Brief Update Law Journal.

Lee is responsible for creating the Company’s inter-partes training manual and is recognised as a gifted and talented writer and costs draftsman.  He has delivered seminars in joint ventures with local barristers’ chambers, regional Law Societies as well as providing in-house training for large corporate and commercial clients.  Lee is a clear and concise speaker and is often in demand for his legal costs based presentations.

Lee maintains a busy caseload in the Ilkley office, alongside his public speaking work, working in all areas of costs law. Further to the Jackson reforms in early 2013 Lee has developed a particular interest in costs management to include costs budgeting, inter-partes costs orders and costs negotiations.  A talented advocate Lee is often instructed to attend court on costs related matters.

David joined John M Hayes in 2011 after obtaining a BA (Hons) Degree in Business Studies, a Graduate Diploma in Law and completing the Legal Practice Course at the University of the West of England.  David was quickly promoted to Regional Manager of the Bristol Office in 2014 and Director in 2017.

David is responsible for the training, marketing and day to day running of the Bristol and Cardiff offices.  He also maintains a busy caseload preparing bills of costs in both publicly funded cases and inter partes matters.  In addition he undertakes negotiations of costs and is proficient in the preparation of costs budgets, including multiple group claim costs budgets.

Marc Banyard

Marc’s experience is in unusual areas of work include Court of Protection, Probate, Criminal costs, costs before HM Planning Inspectorate, Arbitration costs, Trustee costs, cases with inter-jurisdictional elements, costs in the Republic of Ireland, acting for Litigants in Person, costs in the Military Courts, costs before the Adjudicator to HM Land Registry and solicitor/client disputes. Marc undertakes negotiations in inter partes claims for both receiving and paying parties, is an experienced Costs Advocate in both local courts and the SCCO and was Advocate in the reported case of R v Taylor.

In addition to his costing work and advocacy work Marc has spoken on the subject of costs for the Personal Injury Bar Association and has been a contributing author to Butterworths Personal Injury Litigation Services.  He has written for the South Wales Legal News and Costs Lawyer Magazine.  He has also provided expert evidence for the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Dyfed Powys Police.

Phillip Morris

Philip joined John M Hayes in 1993 as a Costs Draftsman before he was promoted to the position of Regional Manager of the Birmingham office in 1998.

As well as managing the office Philip maintains a varied caseload including Litigant in Person work, international travel litigations claims and probate bills.  In addition to this Philip is an experienced advocate who undertakes assessment hearings in the region for other offices as well as his own.

Philip also attends exhibitions, conferences and seminars on behalf of the company and deals with certain aspects of advertising to maintain John M Hayes presence in the market.

Donna Attwood

Donna joined John M Hayes in 2001 having attended Wolverhampton University where she achieved a LLB (Hons).  She then went on to attain her LPC at the same university.

Her main caseload focuses on group travel litigation claims, where she often heads up a separate costs team in the office to get through what are often complex claims.  Donna also has experience in drafting bills of costs in privately and publicly funded cases, preparing points of dispute and replies, negotiating costs and preparing high costs case plans.
