I have found John M Hayes to be a very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable service and have been very satisfied with their services.
Fieldings Porter Solicitors
There’s no doubt, the pace of change for Claimant PI Solicitors is startling. On Twitter, @Suffolk Solicitor (Stevan Stratton) shared his thoughts on the government’s new proposals to increase the small claims limit to £5K , asking “when was there last a reform to the civil justice system which was for the benefit of the genuine Claimant?” . The Law Society Gazette suggests that insurers will pocket an extra £200m a year following the PI reforms. In Stevan Stratton’s view the result is simple: less claims will be made, those that are made will see less damages paid out, insurers save billions, motor premiums will drop for a year or two before increasing again and then insurers make billions more. Do you agree?
“It is my clear understanding that senior Judges including Sir Rupert Jackson are confounded by the idea of denying damages for injury” wrote Professor Regan on Twitter, this Thursday.
Elsewhere with a peremptory suspicion of foregone conclusion, Jackson LJ, is appointed to consider further amendment to fixed fees. Read more here.
Two big decisions this week on fixed fees: Bird v Acorn and Qadar. Read summaries from Gordon Exall here on Qadar and here on Bird V Acorn and watch out too, for a new project from John M Hayes on the cost of fixed fees.
Kerry Underwood writing on TUI UK Ltd v Tickell and Others where costs were allowed inter-partes for inter fee-earner discussions and the supervision of paralegals.
Two legal aid stories to read: an interview with Bob Neill, Tory MP admitting the government has it wrong on legal aid reform and a really challenging story from the blog at suesspiciousminds confronting human rights claims and the statutory charge.
Don’t miss David Smith’s weekly #legalaidCostsTip, @DavidSmithJMHP on Twitter.
Good Luck to Chris McClure and the Manchester team of John M Hayes hosting a new seminar this afternoon on (amongst other things) enhanced costs orders in legal aid claims, offering practical advice and tips using out skill and expertise in legal aid claims to make a difference to your cash flow.
The pace of change continues at John M Hayes as we move from Sage accounting onto XERO. What a difference new software makes to business when the time is ripe for change. Nothing ever stands still and nor should it with every day bringing wider opportunities for growth and change.
I hope to see you at the Women of Achievement Awards in Hull this afternoon, and if not
Until next week.
