Some of our recent trainees had the following to say about the training, the role of a Costs Draftsmen and John M Hayes as a company:
After graduating from University, I joined the John M Hayes Norwich Office as a Trainee Costs Draftsman in January 2013 and I’ve never looked back. The company training scheme is fantastic and provides a comprehensive basis of knowledge and endless resources on which to develop your understanding. Whilst being supported one-on-one in my office I’ve had the opportunity to attend companywide training days and seminars which have given me an insight into various areas of costing. As a result of this I’ve had the opportunity to gradually build on my experience with different types of cases and now love coming to work every day and not knowing what kind of file will be waiting for me!
Melissa Aspin, Consultant Law Costs Draftsman, Norwich
I was trained in the Ilkley office and received detailed one-on-one training from knowledgeable Costs Draftsmen with years of experience in both Legal Aid and Inter-partes matters. The John M Hayes national training programme includes quick access manuals and updates to cover any aspect of costing, as well as the national forum to access knowledge from across the company’s 11 regional offices.
The company also offers luxury training days and conferences which are a great chance to network with other trainees and share experiences. This includes seminars from experienced Costs Draftsmen and guest speakers alike, with practical training and valuable resources to take away and utilise in daily costing.
Following the end of the training programme, the learning doesn’t stop there. The company’s national network of knowledge is always available to support and update our Costs Draftsmen through the ever changing landscape of legal costs.
Will Buckton, Law Costs Draftsman, Ilkley
I began working at the John M Hayes Newcastle branch office in July 2012 after completing a Law degree at Northumbria University. From an early stage in the training scheme it was evident to me that the firm is making a large investment in each individual personally. The level of time and effort that is afforded to each trainee on a ‘one-to-one’ basis is exceptional and the quality of the training materials and regularly updated resources really is second to none. You are also afforded the opportunity to attend national training days and events, which are incredibly beneficial and also a lot of fun! As a trainee you are provided with a high degree of responsibility, yet also given enough support to ensure that you feel confident with the tasks you are assigned, making sure that your skills and knowledge develop at the right pace. What’s more, there is always somebody within the team that will make time for you and help with any questions you might have, which in my opinion contributes enormously to the undeniable success of the John M Hayes training programme.
