Interview with Philip Morris
Background
Philip has been with John M Hayes for 22 years now, having joined the Sutton Coldfield team back in 1993. After 5 years with the company Philip was promoted to Regional Manager and now manages one of the company's busiest offices based in the city of Birmingham. Philip was born and bred in Birmingham and studied at Handsworth Secondary Modern (now no longer there). He now lives just outside the city with his wife. Philip has two children and four granddaughters.
Q1. Tell us how you came to work in legal costs
As a result of an enforced career change a friend put me in touch with the then manager of John M Hayes’ Sutton Coldfield office. Rather than looking for the “right job” I took this opportunity to do something completely different.
Q2. What is your current position with John M Hayes?
Regional Manager of the Birmingham office with some marketing responsibilities.
Q3. What do you love about your job?
I enjoy the type and variety of the work, the working environment that I have helped create since relocating to our central Birmingham office and the colleagues with whom I work.
Q4. What don’t you love about your job?
There is nothing I can honestly say that I dislike about the job.
Q5. What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
Working for an American data communications company which enabled significant international travel.
Q6. Where do you live?
In Sutton Coldfield.
Q7. What keeps you busy outside of the office?
Being musical director of two local choirs which perform entertainment evenings to raise money for local charities………and then there are always the grandchildren!! In between foreign holidays.
Q8. What’s your dream job?
Formula 1 driver….failing that a professional singer/musician.
Q9. Do you have a ‘can’t miss’ tv programme?
Not really, but if pushed…….Strictly Come Dancing.
Q10. What’s your idea of a perfect night out?
A meal out with family or friends at a decent restaurant sitting outside on a warm summer’s evening watching the sun go down…………with a glass of pink champagne.
Q11. Do you have a favourite quote?
Don’t have one that I regularly quote except perhaps – “never assume because it could make an “ass” out of “u” and “me”.
