Manchester Office
- Alexander Bagnall BSc (Joint Hons) G Dip Law - Regional Manager
Alex has conduct of a busy caseload that is typically a mixture of high value and complex inter partes matters including technical challenges to the enforceability of retainers, ‘premature issue’ allegations in RTA claims and the application of Part 45 fixed costs rules in personal injury matters. Alex has experience of a wide range of costs proceedings including those arising out of insolvency, defamation, probate and boundary disputes and has conducted costs litigation in Courts at all levels up to and including the House of Lords. He accepts instructions as an advocate to attend detailed assessment hearings and interim application hearings within costs proceedings on behalf of both paying and receiving parties. In addition to his fee earning work, Alex is a regular contributor to a local legal publication.
- Stephen Porter BA (Hons)
Stephen joined The John M Hayes Partnership in 2008. He prepares bills of costs in many types of publicly funded matters and inter partes bills in personal injury and commercial litigation cases. Stephen's negotiations caseload is a mixture of paying and receiving party work, including preparing Points of Dispute and Points of Reply; and he accepts instructions as an advocate to attend detailed assessment hearings on behalf of both paying and receiving parties. Stephen is also responsible for initial staff training within the Manchester office.
- Muneeb Karolia LLB (Hons)
Muneeb joined The John M Hayes Partnership in 2008 as a graduate trainee. He completed his training at the Ilkley office before transferring to the Manchester office in August 2009. Since joining the practice, Muneeb has prepared CLAIM1s and bills of costs in publicly funded family matters, care proceedings, civil injunction and housing matters. He has prepared inter partes bills in cases involving divorce and neighbour disputes, and in personal injury claims. Muneeb is currently working on negotiating settlement of costs on behalf of the receiving party in personal injury claims.
- Laura Freeman LLB (Hons)
Laura joined The John M Hayes Partnership in 2008. Laura is responsible for preparing the majority of the office’s High Cost Case Plans and also drafts bills in publicly-funded and inter partes matters. Laura’s inter partes negotiation case load contains a wide variety of Receiving Party cases including those relating to clinical negligence, industrial disease and other personal injury matters.
- Samantha Bramley BSc (Hons)
Sam joined The John M Hayes Partnership as a trainee law costs draftsman in December 2009, having previously worked for a well-known medicolegal agency. Sam's caseload is currently a mixture of publicly-funded cases and personal injury matters.
- Viv Ware BA (Hons)
Viv has worked for The John M Hayes Partnership since 2007 and is a first point of contact for those who call the office. Viv previously worked for the National Taxing Team in the Court Service for 4 years.
- Emma Charles BSc (Hons) G Dip Law
Emma joined The John M Hayes Partnership in April 2010 as a trainee law costs draftsman following her completing the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School. Since joining JMHP, Emma has drafted CLAIM1s in publicly funded family and civil matters.
- Mark Bennett LLB (Hons)
Mark is a qualified solicitor who specialised in civil litigation and family law before he joined The John M Hayes Partnership in 2010. Mark’s current caseload consists mainly of personal injury and publicly-funded family cases.
- Caroline Hay BA (Hons)
Caroline joined The John M Hayes Partnership in July 2010 having previously worked for another firm of law costs draftsmen. Caroline’s experience is predominantly in publicly-funded family law and she regularly prepares CLAIM1s, CLAIM1As, bills of costs for detailed assessment and High Cost Case Plans. Caroline also has some experience of inter partes assessments.
