Birmingham Office
- Philip Morris - Regional Manager

Joined the firm in 1993 and the longest serving draftsman in the Birmingham office. Became manager in 1998 and has been instrumental in the office’s elevation to one of the largest and most profitable units in the group. Initially involved in training, Philip has been responsible for the marketing of the firm and is the first point of contact when exhibiting at the numerous legal conferences around the country. Experienced in all aspects of costing he is well equipped to deal with points of dispute, replies, and negotiations and attends detailed assessments at local courts and the Supreme Court Costs Office.

Since joining The John M Hayes Partnership in 1994 Philip has prepared most types of bills, including bills for group and multi-party actions and those for high value commercial and personal injury matters. He has also undertaken staff training roles, both within the Birmingham office and in others around the country. Philip has gained considerable experience in negotiating costs and in the preparation of points of dispute and replies to points of dispute and has attended numerous detailed assessment hearings both within the West Midlands area and beyond, including several hearings in the Supreme Court Costs Office.

Since joining The John M Hayes Partnership in 1996 Martin has developed considerable experience in all aspects of costing. He specialises in very high cost claims in excess of £1 million in respect of commercial property disputes, clinical negligence and catastrophic personal injury claims. Martin also has extensive advocacy experience both in the Supreme Court Costs Office and local County Courts.

Since joining The John M Hayes Partnership in 1997 Jonathan has developed considerable expertise in preparing inter partes and publicly funded bills of costs. Having prepared numerous large individual and multi-claimant bills of costs he particularly enjoys the challenges of large complex cases where the issues may require particular attention beyond that which is generally necessary. Jonathan also has wide experience in international travel litigation actions, preparing points of dispute, replies, and representation at detailed assessment hearings.

Mike joined The John M Hayes Partnership in 1999 and is experienced in all areas of law costs drafting from the very modest publicly funded matters to complex multiparty actions including preparation of points of dispute, replies and negotiating settlements. Mike is experienced in all types of family matters including the preparation of high costs case plans, personal injury, housing claims and international travel litigation.

Donna has worked at The John M Hayes Partnership since 2001 and is a Fellow of the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen and a Costs Lawyer. She has extensive experience in all areas of law costs drafting including preparing points of dispute, replies and estimates of costs and undertaking settlement negotiations. Donna also has experience in criminal work, preparing high costs case plans and drafting bills of costs for taxation in the House of Lords.

Sarah commenced her employment with The John M Hayes Partnership in 2001 after completing her Law Degree. She has extensive experience of all aspects of law cost drafting including preparation of points of dispute and replies, and negotiating settlements. Sarah is experienced in dealing with costs in personal injury claims (including clinical negligence cases), international travel litigation claims and in family cases. She also specialises in preparing bills in relation to criminal matters and Court of Protection cases.

Jennifer joined The John M Hayes Partnership in 1990 as a part-time administrator and was initially one of only two employees (the second being the office manager) based at the newly-opened Sutton Coldfield office. Jennifer’s hours of work gradually increased as the office grew and, soon after the office relocated to Birmingham City Centre in June 2001, she began to undertake costing work in addition to administrative duties. Since 2003, Jennifer has been costing files on a full time basis and occasionally deputises as administrator.

Nicola joined The John M Hayes Partnership in October 1995 after completing a Legal Secretary course at Sutton Coldfield College. She is an experienced administrator and is the first point of call for incoming enquiries.
